Action Areas
Our mission is broad by design; a circle can convene around almost any issue that divides or endangers us. These action areas name the themes we return to most often. Across all of them, our method is the same: bring people together across difference, spark honest dialogue, and turn that dialogue into action.
Conflict Resolution & Reconciliation
Some of the deepest wounds, between nations, communities, and neighbors, never close because the parties never truly speak. For fifty years our Circles have brought people from opposite sides of a divide into the same room: Northern Ireland's Troubles, South Africa's struggle, racial reckoning in the United States. We create the rare, brave space where former adversaries can listen, grieve, and begin the slow work of reconciliation.
Human & Civil Rights
The fight for dignity and equal rights advances when those closest to injustice are heard and when others are moved to stand with them. Our Circles lift up the voices of people on the front lines of that fight and connect the generations who have carried it, from the civil rights movement to today's young organizers. We convene dialogue that turns awareness into solidarity, and solidarity into action for a more just and equal world.
Education & Opportunity
Opportunity is not distributed equally, and neither is the education that unlocks it. We convene students, educators, and leaders to confront the barriers that hold people back and to imagine how learning can level the field rather than reinforce the divide. By putting emerging voices in dialogue with those who shape institutions, we help turn hard questions about equity into practical paths toward opportunity for all.
Global Reach & Local Action
The world's largest challenges are lived locally, in a neighborhood, a school, a town council. GCC connects a global network of changemakers so that wisdom travels: a solution born in one community can inspire action in another across the world. We help participants see that they are part of something larger than themselves, and that global citizenship is expressed not in the abstract but in what we do where we live.
Social Transformation & Justice
Lasting change means transforming the systems that produce injustice, not just responding to its symptoms. Our Circles examine the socio-economic-political structures that shape people's lives, and bring together those working to change them. By pairing bold conversation with the relationships and hope that sustain long movements, we support the patient, collective work of building a more just society.
Sustainable Development
The health of our planet and the wellbeing of its people are interconnected. We convene scientists, activists, young leaders, and communities on the front lines of climate change to move past paralysis toward shared responsibility and action. Our Circles treat the climate crisis as GCC treats every challenge: as something no one can solve alone, and something dialogue across difference can help solve together.
